My name is Sean, and I’ve been an artist in one form or another for my entire life. My parents tell me that as soon as I was old enough to pick up and hold a pencil, I’ve been drawing. As one might expect, I started out doing simple cartoon and comics characters, which really helped me to learn about shapes and repitition. In my early teens, my focus shifted somewhat and turned toward superhero-style comics. It was around this time that I started practicing with lettering and simple logo techniques.

During my teen years, a lot of my time was spent studying and practicing drawing the human form, so that I may improve my technique in comic book illustration. At around 15 years old, I broke into a lot of new ground, thanks to several AP art courses I was able to take my sophomore year. These included, but weren’t by any means limited to, photorealism, pointilism, oil and acrylic painting, silk screen printing processes, and basic graphic design techniques. And when I say basic, I’m referring to Adobe Photoshop 2.0 and Illustrator 3.0.

My love for computer-aided design only increased over the years, and it wasn’t long before the small amount of knowledge and I experience I had in this led me to web design. I started as many designers do, using applications like Fireworks and Dreamweaver (then Macromedia, not Adobe). This expanded into writing my own basic HTML and CSS, which has since turned into a lot more. CSS has been one of my main areas of focus for a very long time, and I’d like to consider my knowledge and creativity to be fairly advanced in that sense.

Due to the fact that I’ve worked several very technically-oriented jobs over the years, I’ve been able to learn basic web server administration, advanced Windows and Macintosh operating system knowledge, network architecture and more.

More recently, I’ve become quite fond of digital illustration-- removing the pencil/pen and paper, and instead replacing it with Photoshop/Illustrator/SketchBook and a drawing tablet. This of course has brought some unique challenges with it, but I now feel very comfortable and capable in that medium. In fact, the illustration of me you see on this page was created entirely in Adobe Illustrator using my Wacom tablet. And now I can draw and write code on the go, thanks to wonderful tools such as the iPad.
